Slimestone - Rock Lords

Magnarock - Ganseki Chōjin - 'Friend that comes to help during a pinch'*

* As with Pulver-Eyes, Slimestone's alignment was changed from the Japanese to Western releases. His Japanese model code starts with 'MRR' as shared with the other good guys and the on box bio describes him as good and assisting the good faction.

Gobots Packaging 'Slimestone is a rock warrior with a different personality. Short, squat, and disgustingly sinister, Slimestone enjoys wallowing in pools of boiling oil. Slimestone delights in using his Slimegun to smear enemies with evil-smelling sticky stuff that's impossible to get off!'

Japanese Packaging Practical Translation 'His strong magnetic force barrier shield has saved the good superhuman rock men from a pinch in a crisis more than once. Although he's lacking in attack ability, he is always reliable to his friends. His weapon creates a covering shield that can protect him and his friends from attack.'

Robo Machine Packaging (shared by all Series 1 and 2 figures and Saberstone and Spearhead) 'Rock Life has evolved upon the planet 'Quartex' in the form of rock "beings", each with their own unique abilities. Conflict exists between the forces of good and evil ROCK LORDS. But just like GOBOTS, good does not always prevail, sometime the evil side wins!'

See main Rock Lords index page for more general details.

Prototypes Slimestone saw at least two prototypes, mostly relating to the head.

1: An early catalogue showed the figure having a gunmetal and green, re-sculpted head. It still had the orange inner body of the Japanese Machine Robo version, however that section and hands seem to be paint washed in the same gunmetal colour. This prototype can be seen below. It's also a possibility this version was given to Hanna-Barbera artists to design the character for the Battle of the Rock Lords movie. It too features a dark inner body and head with green details. Unfortunately the only available image of this prototype does not show the head clearly so while the animated version does more colour match this version, it's still speculation. Other early concept and Japanese versions appeared in both the Challenge of the Gobots TV series and the Rock Lords movie. Due to the time taken to create animated content, examples needed to be provided as soon as possible making last minute figure changes incongruous with the cartoons; the blue version of Tork in the TV series for example.

2: The second prototype (seen on the figure's blister card back below) sported the same mouth as the production version with two large, red and green eyes added. The prototype is spray painted silver vs. chromed, likely to cover the orange inner body and have all sections match. It's likely to have been a serious consideration as marketing photos and illustrations show this head.

Regardless of at least two attempts to regionally personalise the figure, Slimestone arrived as a seemingly cost reduced variant of the Japanese version losing the orange body and with only a face paint colour change.
