'Transforms from Robot Leader to Battle Vehicle'

Robot Leaders is 1992, two figure transforming robot toy line from DSI (Diversified Specialists Inc) out of Huston, USA. In the same year DSI also reissued Buddy L's 'Transforming Dinosaur Collection'; see Dinotron section.

Lovers of early 80s Japanese cartoons will likely recognise Irongear and Ironcar / Blue Gale from the hilarious 1982/83 Sunrise production, 'Combat Mecha Xabungle'; AKA Blue Gale Xabungle. The series wasn't dubbed for Western audience at time, however it's worth checking out if you like Yoshiyuki Tomino's work on Gundam. Xabungle is unapologetically silly by comparison and not for the easily offended.

What did make it to the West was many, many versions of these two models, mostly bootlegged under a variety of names. They were originally released by Clover Toys in Japan as promotional items and were never intended to be a high quality product. Repeated bootlegging over a number of years, likely from the same moulds didn't do the quality any favours.

Unfortunately by the time DSI engaged someone to produced them in '92 the moulds should have already been retired. There are multiple warped and malformed pieces that prevent proper mode change. Parts easily fall off or simply can't be socketed into place as the holes are too small for the pegs. Being parts-formers, particularly Blue Gale, these issues need to be fixed before use. It's also unknown if these are a licensed release or if DSI were made aware of their origins.

All that aside, if you're an Xabungle fan, this is the only way to get the two figures in these colour schemes with those stickers.
