Racer Bots

'Motorised Pull Back Action'

Released in two popular real world models, a Porsche 928 and Pontiac Firebird, Racer Bots are low cost, monopod, transforming robot toys.

Indicative of the release era, Racer Bots include some diecast metal parts. The metal is in the car's roof and robot's face, however it's extremely thin and easily mistakable for plastic. Boasting diecast metal parts was a significant sign of quality when an item came from the likes of Bandai or Takara, however in this instance it's a bare minimum in an attempt to garner some of that learnt consumer confidence.

At time of writing (2024) only four toys have been sighted, two in the United States (black and red) and two released in Indonesia (pink and yellow) and likely other parts South East Asia. It's highly likely all versions were released in other regions, but that information is as yet unconfirmed.

Interestingly, the red and black versions confirmed distributed in the United States have the word 'Motorised' spelt with a 's' not a 'z' and this could indicate a Canadian, European or other region release.

RACER BOTS - 14.5 cm

Racer Bots Black & Red (Porsche 928) NO.4026 US
Racer Bots Red & Black (Pontiac Firebird) NO.4025 US
Racer Bots Yellow & Red (Porsche 928) NO.4026N IN
Racer Bots Pink & Green (Pontiac Firebird) NO.4025 IN

Release Dates The Pontiac appears to be based on a 1983/84 Firebird indicating it was released after that. 1985/86 is the most likely release date for the black and red versions based on style and build. The brightly coloured releases probably came out in the late 80s or early 90s purely due to the colours and cardback design. Release dates area currently unconfirmed.

Stamped Made in China along with each figure's respective NO Model number shown above.

Trivia (contributed by Micah Guy) The Porshce 928 versions have a modified copy of Transformers Gen 1 Tracks' head, while the Firebird has a fairly direct copy of Gen 1 Jazz's head. It's also possible the hands are loosely based on a cast of Super Gobots Throttle's hands.
