Mighty Bots

Released in Italy by Ceppi Ratti, Australia and possibly parts of South America in 1983 by unknown distributors, Mighty Bots came on the scene early on in the mad dash to be part of the changing form robot market.

The line seems to consist of a limited number of models that were issued in a variety of different colours and sticker designs. Each model shares a similar pullback motor gimmick, style and transformation with the MC Toy Motobots, Dynabots, etc.

The pickup model is a simplified copy of the Motobots standard set yellow pickup with modifications to how the head is converted. In addition the feet wheels have been replaced with a single wheel along with other minor cosmetic changes. It's unclear whether this is a bootleg offering or if the mould was sold to more than one manufacturer as was the case with a number of toy lines. What is evident is that the stamping area where 'MC Toy' would traditionally be has been scratched smooth on the mould and replaced with 'Hong Kong'. The pickup model has the same face sculpt as the jeep and truck Moto-Bot figures.

Unlike the pickup, the jeep does not share a model with a Motobots figure and interestingly is in scale with the pickup vs. the Motobots vehicle modes that share no common scale. The Motobots line also includes a jeep model however it's a larger scale. As pure speculation this could further indicate that other models were on offer to a number of companies with only some picked up by MC Toy for Motobots and the jeep may have been rejected due to it's slightly smaller scale.

It's also very possible that MC Toy purchased a base model and while teamed up with Maisto (predominately a diecast car company) shoehorned the transformation and motor holding frame into a number of vehicles leaving Mighty Bots the only examples of what could well have been a fun little run of models. It would be easy to list Mighty Bots as a Motobots bootleg line bar the inclusion of the jeep that was clearly designed by the same source as the pickup.

The cardback images are not model colour specific; eg. the black jeep was sold on a card showing a red jeep in robot mode.

There is very limited information for the Mighty Bots line and so if you have any further details please get in contact.
