Ferrari - Dashbots

'Robot Converts to Car with Pull Back Action'

The Dashbots Ferrari is a transforming robot toy that was sold in two colours, red and black.

This metal and plastic version is the only Dashbots car that has a semi-transparent window insert. The other Dashbots cars have windows that are either painted or the same colour as the surrounding body.

It's a very solid toy with a decent amount of diecast metal making up the top half of the car. The Ferrari was released a number of times and eventually in a cost reduced, all plastic version; see separate page in this section.

Like all Dashbots, the Ferrari features a powerful pull back, wind up motor that competently sends it dashing across the floor.

See Dashbots main index for further details.

See separate page on this site for the Plastic versions.

Faction The Ferrari was listed on the first release, tray packaging as allied with the 'Evil Robots'.

Misleading Packaging The blister card text shows '3 IN 1' for what is clearly a two mode robot; unless they count the motor feature as one of the three. There were two blister card releases and while the second card still boasts 'Stick-On Decals', they were only supplied with the first carded version.

Stamped '(c) 1984 Upright Manufacturers Inc Pat. Pending Made in Taiwan'. Up-Right is misprinted and should have a hyphen.

Trivia The Dashbots Ferrari's face is loosely based on a RX-78-2 Gundam Mobile Suit head. It's not surprising as the Ferrari was adapted from a Japanese model kit released during the height of Gundam's early popularity. The same kit was re-used by North American company Monogram for their Gobots 'Turbo' kit; regardless of it looking nothing like the Turbo. The Dashbots version is 10% larger than the original kit.
